Program in Learning & Adapting thru Neurodevelopmental Therapeutic Strategies

Orange Grove Center (OGC) serves individuals with intellectual & developmental disabilities.  The center has a school for children ages 6-22 and another adult school for those over 22. In addition to the schools, there are medical, dental, therapeutic, and behavioral health services located on the campus.

In January 2022, MGHC and OGC teamed up to provide outdoor educational gardening opportunities for the OGC community. Our goal is to develop gardening skills for the students to use not only at the center, but out in the community at various other volunteer gardening sites.

On April 22, 2022 OGC P.L.A.N.T.S. celebrated the first annual Earth Day for OGC, where approximately 100 clients and staff from the school, community centers, OGC’s North Georgia services and residential group homes visited at various times from 9a.m-2p.m.  We potted several flats of milkweed, coneflowers blanket flowers and rudbeckias to give to the clients and staff to plant in their own yard.  Plans for 2023 are to add more native plants that will attract beneficial insects and wildlife to the gardens.  MGHC volunteers are encouraged to help with this important and meaningful project.
