McCoy Farm and Gardens is where history, community, and pollinators converge on Walden’s Ridge. The mission of McCoy Farm & Gardens is to restore, enhance, and preserve the historic McCoy homeplace so that it may serve the community as an arboretum, natural area, and venue for public and private events. The property includes its renovated country manor, woodland walking trails, apple orchard, and recently-restored gardens.
Restoring the gardens was a three-year project led by Hamilton County Master Gardeners. It involved removal of invasive plant species, design of an overall plan, preparation and execution. Master Gardeners and other dedicated volunteers spent hundreds of hours making the gardens the beautiful space that is there today. Master Gardeners are now maintaining the beds and designing new children’s gardens.
The horseshoe-shaped gardens are designed to provide monarch butterflies and other pollinators with food and shelter. The garden has over 100 species of plants, many of which are natives. The grounds are maintained using renewable techniques and conservation practices.
The Butterfly Waystation & Cottage Garden project was the recipient of the TN Master Gardeners 2020 Search for Excellence Award for Outstanding Project.
