The former Eastdale Community Center has recently been renamed the Jessie Igou Community Center. The renaming took place in July of 2025 and honors Ms. Igou for her dedication to making the Eastdale community safer and providing resources for the area residents.
The Jessie Igou Center is a vibrant hub in Chattanooga and offers a welcoming environment for community engagement and educational enrichment. The center is renowned for its diverse range of programs designed to inspire creativity and learning among youth and adults alike. It is committed to building skills and nurturing aptitudes. Many residents highlight the positive impact of the center’s programs, particularly those that focus on educating the youth in a fun, engaging manner.
Master Gardener Carlton Mathis began a new program at the center by refreshing the raised beds with the goal of becoming a MGHC project. The children of various ages are being educated in planting, growing, and harvesting the vegetables. They also participate in tasting the harvest with a little ranch dressing on the side! This learning takes place as one of the summer programs at the center.
