SUMMARY:3rd Saturday Class: Plants Discovered by the Lewis & Clark Expedition of 1804-06
DESCRIPTION:The Lewis and Clark Expedition\, under the command of Captain Meriwether Lewis and Second Lieutenant William Clark\, was commissioned by President Jefferson to explore and map the newly acquired territory in the Louisiana Purchase and to find a practical route across the western half of the continent. A secondary objective was scientific: to study the area’s plants\, animal life\, and geography.  Among their achievements was documenting and preserving over 178 plants new to western science. Master Gardener Carol Davis highlights some of the plants they discovered\, where they were found\, and how they were used by both Native Americans and the Expedition itself during their journey. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nClasses are held in person at the UT/TSU Hamilton County Extension (6183 Adamson Circle\, off Bonny Oaks Drive in Chattanooga). \n\n\n\nTo attend this class\, please register on SignUp HERE \n\n\n\nPlease visit MGHC’s YouTube channel for 3rd Saturday Class videos and other gardening-related presentations.
