On Saturday, January 26th, 2013 volunteers and staff members will gather at the Chattanooga Arboretum and Nature Center (CA&NC) to install new identification labels on more than 200 arboretum trees. The installation of the labels is part of the process that is required by the Tennessee Urban Forestry Council (TUFC) for organizations to maintain their status as a Certified Tennessee Arboretum. Following installation of the labels the TUFC will send an inspector to confirm that all of the established arboretum standards are met. Once confirmed, the arboretum will be certified for 5 years.
The CA&NC first earned its arboretum certification in 2002. Having more than 140 tree species in the park, the CA&NC is a Level IV Arboretum, the highest level recognized in the state. Along with the new labels, a new map has been created that will allow visitors to easily locate all of the trees on the arboretum grounds. In addition, new educational programs offered by the Arboretum will use the labeled trees to train others to properly identify the trees of our native habitat.
Please join us for this day of work and celebration for our community.
